– Just dropping by to let you know who I met this evening, only Lord Robert Baden Powell, grandson of our founder. What an honour!
I found him at a book signing for his new book, “The Life of a Dog”.
It is all about a greyhound named Bandit, who lives with Lord Baden Powell. Bandit was at the book signing with his house companion Willow.
Lord Baden Powell has led a very interesting life in Scouting, but on this occasion he explained all about greyhound rescue. The local greyhound rescue centre rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes around 150 abandoned, sick or ill-treated greyhounds each year at the Sun Valley Kennels near Guildford in Surrey. It was founded in 1970 after the late Celia Cross found her first abandoned greyhound, which had been left to die in a disused barn.
At one point, I found myself on the table amongst the books. It was a good job that I was rescued, or I might have been sold!
After a left pawed handshake, Lord Baden Powell lifted me onto his shoulder so that I could have my photograph taken. I could see all the Christmas lights and decorations from up there, but I still wasn’t able to see Father Christmas.
It was a very dark and cold night outside, but well worth it just to be able to say that I had met Lord Baden Powell.
I must go now as I am only a Wolf Cub, it is past my bedtime and I must be ready for my next trip …
